To Promote Recreating Responsibly,

Discover Kalispell Launches New Campaign

Tuesday, July 19, 2022—Kalispell, Montana—With summer fully underway and the Flathead Valley busting at the seams with travelers who are here to enjoy outdoor recreation, small-town charm and Glacier National Park, Discover Kalispell recently launched a new recreate responsibly campaign with the tagline of “Treat It Like Grandma’s House.”

“For the last two years, a major emphasis has been placed on recreating responsibly,” said Diane Medler, Executive Director, Discover Kalispell – the Kalispell Convention & Visitor Bureau. “And while we fully support that initiative, we knew it was necessary to cut through the clutter and come out with something different that grabbed the attention of both residents and visitors, which is how Treat It Like Grandma’s House came to fruition.”

While Discover Kalispell does not actively promote summer travel through paid advertising efforts, they are running paid campaigns around recreating responsibly to educate visitors both before they arrive and when they are in Kalispell. Discover Kalispell launched the “Treat It Like Grandma’s House – Grandma & Montana Both Hate a Messy Home” messaging through social media and paid digital placements.

“When we unveiled this new approach, the response we received was overwhelming,” said Medler. “We found that our audience appreciated this angle, as it’s relatable, easily understood and attention grabbing.”

Northwest Montana has seen an influx in both visitors and new residents in the last 24 months. In addition, a recent report from the Census Bureau shows that Kalispell is the fastest-growing city in the state, a title previously held by Bozeman.

“At Discover Kalispell, we don’t just promote coming to visit,” added Medler. “An important component of our work is to help manage and protect this incredible place. Through this campaign, as well as other efforts, we’re able to reach folks who are here in Kalispell – whether it’s for a weekend or a lifetime – and directly ask them to do their part.”
