Skiing & Snowboarding
The only Montanans who sleep through the winter are the bears. The rest of us flock to the mountains with skis and boards to revel in feet and feet of powdery fun. Staying in Kalispell puts you equidistant from two great ski experiences. To the north 22 miles, there’s Whitefish Mountain Resort, a perennial national favorite and one of the 10 largest ski areas in the country. To the south 28 miles, there’s Blacktail Mountain Ski Area, a local’s secret with great intermediate terrain and stunning views of Flathead Lake. Both resorts have near-by groomed cross-country ski trails as well. You really can’t go wrong, especially if you split your time between the two of them.
Whitefish Mountain Resort, formerly known as Big Mountain, is a world class resort with more than 3,000 acres of terrain. Visible from downtown Kalispell, the slopes beckon skiers and snowboarders of every skill level and interest.
