4 Tips for Your Vacation to Montana

By Discover Kalispell on Mar. 19, 2021

Spring weather has arrived in Montana and while we’re not sure how long it’s going to stick around, it has us looking forward to warmer days and daydreaming about sun-filled adventures. While you are planning your summer vacation (or heck, even your spring break or fall getaway), we wanted to share some tips for your vacation to Kalispell and northwest Montana.

  1. Book your rental car early. You may have heard rumors that there is going to be a car rental shortage in the U.S. (it was even referenced in a recent article in Forbes). If you’re planning on flying into Glacier Park International Airport and renting a car for your trip, we recommend booking your rental car as soon as possible.
  2. Be flexible. We know you’ve heard this countless times over the past year, but this is key for having a successful trip to Montana. The weather might turn or the wait to get into Glacier National Park may be long. No matter what, it’s always a good idea to have a plan and then have a back-up plan. If it’s pouring rain, opt for an indoor tour at the Conrad Mansion Museum or explore local breweries. If the line is too long to enter Glacier National Park, plan to cruise down the Seeley-Swan Valley and take a hike at Holland Lake. (Check out this blog post for more inspiration.)
  3. Pack properly. With our location in the Rocky Mountains, Kalispell gets all sorts of weather, with warm days, cool nights and unexpected storms. Even if you’re planning a summer visit, it’s a good idea to pack a light fleece or jacket and a pair of long pants. Be sure you’re ready to make the most of your adventure with our packing list
  4. Get familiar with local guidelines. In Montana, there is no longer a statewide mask mandate. However, that does not mean that you shouldn’t do your part to keep visitors and locals healthy. You’ll also find that some counties, communities and businesses have their own guidelines and may ask you and/or require you to wear a mask or face covering. Please follow posted signage and don’t forget to travel safe and recreate responsibly.

No matter when you plan on visiting, stay comfortably in one of Kalispell’s hotels, motels, lodges or RV parks. Explore them all here
